Not yet discovered by many tourists, Uganda is still untouched and pure. It is a country of many surprises with its rolling hills, sparkling crater lakes, abundant wildlife and of courses the endangered mountain gorillas. Moreover, Uganda is still authentic, lush green and home to the friendliest people of the continent.
We’re passionate about Uganda, and it is our privilege to introduce you to this beautiful country. Let Rafiki Adventures be your friend and guide…..
There is more to the country than just the wild life. There is the mighty Nile River punctuated by the spectacular Murchison Falls and the setting for some of the world’s most thrilling white water rafting.
There are snow capped peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains which provide a tantalizing challenge to the dedicated mountaineers. The Viruga volcanoes and Mount Elgon both offer highly rewarding hiking opportunities through scintillating high land scenery. More sedately are the beautiful islands of Lake Victoria and Bunyonyi. Idyllic venues can be seen in the myriad forests and fringed crater lakes that stud the rift valley floor around Fort Portal in Western Uganda.
Whether you are a first time safari go’er or a seasoned African traveler, Uganda has a unique blend of savannah and forest creatures to see. It is a rare wealth of mountain and lake inhabitants. It is simply dazzling.
Uganda has a reputation as Africa’s friendliest country. This stems from the tradition of hospitality common to its culturally diverse population and partly from the remarkably low level of crime and hassle directed to tourists. This amiable quality extends beyond the easy going people. Uganda’s eco-friendliness is attested to by the creation of six new parks under the present administration. The climate is highly agreeable and reflects the combination of an equatorial location and medium to high altitudes. Hotels and game lodges now rank within the very best Africa has to offer.

What can you do in Uganda?
Gorilla Trekking: Mountain gorillas are highly endangered primates and can only survive by increased conservation efforts. There are only 700 surviving mountain gorillas in the entire world. Half of this population is found in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This makes gorilla trekking the predominate activity in this park. Trekking is a captivating life-time experience involving guided tours to the habitats of these great apes.
Chimpanzee Trekking: Visiting chimpanzee habitats is a phenomenal experience. The way the chimpanzees feed, climb, mate, care for their young ones, and respond to the human presence is amazing. Leaving their nests is announced by drumming on trees, hooting, and screaming. Tracking these primates is largely by following their sounds. Chimps are by far the nosiest of the African primates.
Game and Scenic Viewing: The diversity of Uganda’s wildlife and habitats ranging from savannah grasslands, wetlands, forests, and mountains. Ecosystems and diverse species make Uganda the primate destination for game viewing in Africa.
Bird Watching: Uganda is a great place to bird watch. Uganda boasts 1,060 recorded bird species out of the 1,500 bird species found in East Africa. Uganda’s climate and habitat attracts migrants from the northern and the southern hemisphere, making it the richest country for bird watching in Africa. The whole of Europe has about 700 bird species.
Sport Fishing: Though fishing is widely developed, sport fishing is relatively a new tourist product that has taken the fancy of many visitors to Uganda each year.
Mountain Hiking: For mountain enthusiasts, Uganda provides the snow capped Rwenzori Mountain ranges standing at 5,119 meters and Mount Elgon at 4,321 meters. A trip to one of these mountains is a life-time, exhilarating, and rewarding adventure.
White Water Rafting: When in Uganda, a visit to the white water of the River Nile is a must. Endowed with numerous rapids and waterfalls, the River Nile has become a famous white water rafting destination in the world. The White Nile has up to seven times the volume of the Zambezi waters found in the Democratic Republic f Congo. The Nile River thunders between heavily forested islands and leaps widely into a series of spectacular drops.
Cycling: When you’re in Uganda, you have a chance of taking a scenic cycling trip throughout Kibale, southwestern Uganda.
Forest walks/Nature walks: In Uganda forest walks are organized in Mabira forests, Maramagambo and other forests. Here you will be able to see the healthy pythons at Maramagambo, a healthy and ever green forest specialists include giant forest hog and the legendary tree climbing lions of Ishasha sector.

Joseph Kiwanuka, Team Leader
Joseph was born and raised in a little town called Kyegewa in Western Uganda under very humble circumstances. Joseph has always had a passion for nature and wildlife. He speaks English and many of the local languages of Uganda. Joseph is passionate about culture, wildlife, the Ugandan people and community. He believes tourism is a major contributor to the economic growth and transformation of Ugandan communities. Joseph loves to share about his wildlife safari experiences as a tour guide and all the animals you would see whilst on a safari in Uganda. Joseph loves to share about the African culture including how children are brought up in communities – their roles, chores, expectations, general upbringing, and schooling. He loves sharing about African drumming, dancing, and music – how this is deeply ingrained in the Ugandan people!
Sara Kiwanuka, Assistant Director
She may not have been as long as Joseph in the tourism industry, but Sara definitely shares her husband’s passion for the wild. Born and raised in Austin, Texas in the United States, she has long enjoyed hiking and just about any other outdoor activity. She served on several mission teams during high school and after finishing her nursing degree she moved to Uganda. To her surprise, she fell in love…and not just with the beautiful country! She has joined the office management team, but she is the happiest outdoors (especially on safari)!
